Dioscorea sylvatica, commonly known as the Elephants foot Yam or Forest Elephants foot plant is a species of perennial vine native to Southern Africa. It belongs to the Dioscoreaceae family and is known for its attractive heart shaped leaves and volcano shaped caudex.
The plant has a climbing vine that can reach lengths of 6 to 10 feet or more. It produces long, slender stems that twine around supports or nearby vegetation.
The plant thrives in thrives in filtered direct light or bright, indirect light or partial shade. It is best to avoid exposing the caudex to direct sunlight.
Water regularly when in vine. Leave dry during summer dormancy.
