The Philodendron Congo ‘Rojo’ is a large-leafed cultivated variety of Philodendron that is extremely durable and easy to care for. It is sought after for it’s dark red stems. It will grow up to 4 feet in height under ideal conditions.
Light: Philodendron Congo Rojo thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of the soil to dry out before watering again. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix with organic matter. A mix designed for aroids or tropical plants is suitable.
Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a warm environment with temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Philodendrons prefer higher humidity, so misting the leaves or placing a humidity tray nearby can be beneficial.
Fertilization: Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) every 2-4 weeks. Reduce feeding in fall and winter when the plant is not actively growing.
Pruning: Trim yellow or damaged leaves regularly. This encourages new growth and maintains the plant’s appearance.
Repotting: Repot the Philodendron Congo Rojo every 1-2 years or when you notice the plant outgrowing its container. Choose a slightly larger pot and refresh the soil.
Pests: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like spider mites or aphids. If detected, treat them promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
